Sequencing enables the identification of DNA and RNA sequences present within a sample. The sequencing technology used in this device is based on nanopore technology. Several specialized kits are available, depending on the intended analysis.
In this workflow, the DNA or RNA in the sample is processed into a form that can be transported through a nanopore. These nanopores are embedded within a flow cell, which is then loaded with the prepared sample. As individual nucleotides in the DNA/RNA strand pass through a nanopore, they generate characteristic electrical signals specific to each nucleotide. By interpreting these signals, the device determines the precise order of nucleotides in the sequence.
The resulting data can be used for strain verification, population studies, and a variety of bioinformatic analyses. The accompanying computer is supplied with pre-installed analysis software to facilitate downstream data processing.
