Fully automatic Amino Acid Analyzer combines ion exchange separation and high performance liquid chromatography. After separation column, amino acids react with ninhydrine in a heated reactor column allowing photometer detection at 570 and 440 nm.
This instrument detects majority of the common amino acids with some exceptions such as asparagine and glutamine. Possible samples could be e.g. hydrolyzed proteins and cell media supernatants. There is equipment for protein hydrolysis next to this instrument, which utilizes 6 M HCl, vacuum and high temperature to completely hydrolyze proteins within 24 hours.
