Two slightly different images are created by illuminating the sample from opposing sides. These images are analyzed and combined to into a height map. This height map gives information about the topography of the paper.

• OSD value is a measurement of fine scale surface variation in order to predict printability
• Crater value predicts the risk of missing dots and uncovered printing area

• OSD value 0.2 – 6 µm
• Crater (Fine, Medium, Coarse) in 2–10 %
