The OXTRAN2/22 is used to measure the transmission rate of gases through a barrier material. To achieve accurate measurements, a known concentration of test gas, typically 100% oxygen, is introduced on one side of the barrier, while the other side is swept with an oxygen-free carrier gas, which is usually a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen. The barrier material, often a film, is placed between the two parts of a test cell, and the sealing surfaces and O-rings in the cell ensure that outside air does not influence the measurement.
