This instrument is tailored for soft organic surfaces. Components:

• Monochromatic measurements only, using Al Kα irradiation. Typical analysis spot size 400x800 μm
• Electrostatic-magnetic hybrid lens, CAE analyser, DLD detector, hot filament neutralization
• Three separately pumped chambers: load lock, sample storage and analysis chamber.

Elemental analysis, all but H, He detected.

Elemental detection limits in standard experiments

• 1 at% for Li, Mg
• 0.5 at% for C, N, Al, Si
• 0.1 at% for heavier elements

Resolution in standard HiRes experiments, peak widths i.e. FWHM ‘s

• 0.7 eV for graphene
• 1.2 eV for the main carbon compound of Aalto ref material, cellulose (this is the C-O component of C 1s)

Note: Only dry samples can be analysed. Moreover, experiments are performed as batches, after an overnight pre-evacuation and with an Aalto in-situ reference in each sample batch.

Max amount of samples/day: 4. This includes multiple spot analysis and reference data.
